Uses of activated carbon :
Activated carbon can be used as an adsorbent for decolorization of sugar liquids.
Features of activated carbon for decolorization:
1、Has a large specific surface area. The large specific surface area provides the conditions for large adsorption capacity.
2、Has a developed void structure.
3、Activated carbon has a microcrystalline group composed of hexagonally arranged network planes of carbon and a random sugar structure, which makes it have a strong dispersion effect on adsorbed molecules. At the same time, some oxygen-containing groups and heteroatoms on the surface of activated carbon have polar effects on some adsorbed molecules. Therefore, activated carbon can adsorb both non-polar molecules and certain polar molecules.
4、Because activated carbon is insoluble in common solvents and very stable at room temperature, activated carbon has quite good chemical stability, acid and alkali resistance.
5、Activated carbon has a certain mechanical strength, granular carbon is easy to regenerate, and the production cost is relatively low.
